Need your thoughts - both cars have 18K miles and looks great.

The 06 530i is mystic blue and the 05 545i is silver. Silver is a bit boring but mystic blue I may grow tired of in a few years?

I'm going to keep the car for at least 6-7 years - my father in-law is a BMW mechanic at a large BMW dealership....

Both basically would cost me the same and are similarly equipped.

Which would you choose?

thanks

You wont go wrong with a 545i. Power is great.

im more than happy with my '06 530i. but if the price is pretty much the same and same mileage, id probably choose the 545. +1 with delje08, cant go wrong with it. btw, welcome and enjoy the forums.

Not much difference between the two... except two cylindars... go for the 545.

The BMW 6 cylinders are historically more reliable and maintenance free. My suggestion is to go with the 530 unless you just have to have that extra oomph. I will never own another 8 cylinder BMW after past experiences.

545 all the way, never know when you'll want the extra oomph....

I am enjoying my 2005 545i which I bought as a CPO. My previous car was a 2000 328i. I am impressed with the increased power and torque of the 545i even though the 5 series is a heavier car than the 3 series.

go for the v8. although the 530 is more new, it's more used within a span of less than 2 years. beside, your in-law is a bmw tech... no worry.

I had a similar decision a few months ago. The exhaust note of the 8 cylinder is what sold me. Makes me smile every time I step on the accelerator.

Both are great colors. I would recommend silver (although more common) because it hides dust/dirt much better. A friend of mine has a mystic blue 530 and it looks great after he washes for about 15 minutes until the wind kicks up some dust. If I had an hour every day to hand wash mine I would've gone with blue/beige but I don't so I went with silver/beige.

Do either one have the sport package? You can't beat the look of 124's on the 545.

Easy choice....545i. I have a 530xi and hate the lack of power.
