OK, made the serious mistake of test driving an M5 at the weekend.
The dealer offered me a poor trade-in against my 530d but I can still (just) afford the M5 on straight HP (for our US readers that means I'll own the car outright with no balloon payment at the end of the agreement).
I really, really loved the M5 but although the heart says "YES!!!" the head says "no" because my 530d is also a beautiful car. It drives well, the low-end torque is spectacular and it doesn't attract police attention the way an M5 might It has a year to run on the Service Inclusive pack and it has 62,000 miles on it. I'm also a little concerned that the M5 might attract unwarranted attention from coins and keys does anyone have any experience of that?
The M5 is a September 06 car (a 56 plate in the UK) in Black Sapphire and Black Full Perforated Merino Leather with 26,500 miles on the clock. It has all the usual M5 toys plus (from dealer's website):-
Active Seat Ventilation (front seats), Bluetooth phone prep + telematics, BMW Connected Drive-Assist, Brushed Aluminium Shadow Interior Trim, Extended Voice Control System, Hi-Fi loudspeaker system, Hi-Fi system LOGIC7, Professional ISOFIX Child Seat System, Lumbar support. driver and front pass. M Multi-functional Seats (Front), Smokers package, Sunblind - rear windscreen, TV Function, Universal remote control, iPod Integration
Help me, please!!!

I like that answer
I guess it just depends on how much the performance factor matters to you and the status of the M5. Not to mention your gas mileage will be cut in half. Though if you got the money for the M5 gas prices I doubt will bother you.
Wish I had this problem.

I love the M5. I drove my uncle's M5 many times. It truly is a beast of a car. Unfortunately, he had so many problems with it that he had to get rid of it. Computer issues, tranny problems, etc. He said that it was in the shop more than any car he has ever had and he has had tons of cars. He traded it in for a Porsche 911 turbo and couldn't be happier.
NOTE: His M5 was the first production year, so his problems may be due to the first year "bugs"
