Maybe this is more a problem for the newer model year, I've disconnected the battery and slammed the trunk shut on my E60 before, but I can always unlock it with the key manually.

I see no reason why the trunk lid would mechanically fail. I hate to suggest this, but are you sure you turned the valet key far enough to the left? It will turn exactly 90 degrees easily, until the hole is vertical. From that point, the trunk mechanically opens by turning the key a further 45 degrees to the left (with quite a bit resistance!).
If you tried this already (what everybody else seems to think), did the resistance of the key feel different?

I have been disconnecting my battery every night for the past week on my 2005 530d. to open the boot (trunk) you have to use a master key not the valet key all the CCW.
If this doesn't work the link between the lock and the catch has been damaged and you are in trouble.

I've just look at your car spec. Being a LCI model you will need to use the metal blade section of you master key (there is a button on the back of the key to remove this).
That should work.
That should work.

I got my car towed at the stealership this AM and one of the techs opened the trunk using this method. How weird that i tried turning it both ways and it won't open. I guess you really have to put force while turning the key to the left and pull the trunk upwards. Saved myself a few $$$ if they had to rip my backseats apart. What a hassle...

seat removal? it might be easier to build a time machine and go back to when your trunk was still open and dont shut it.
...sorry i do wish i had useful input.
