One option is to apply power to the jump point under the hood and then issue the trunk unlock command on the k-can (body can-bus) to tell the trunk module to open.
The other option is to get under the passenger side of the car, locate connectors X13253 and X13252 and remove them from the Basic Body Module.
Apply power to pin 3 of X13253 (which should activate the trunk release motor)(It should be a black wire with a yellow stripe).
To get to the Basic Body Module you'll have to remove the panel in the foot well behind the glove box (as you look up from the floor). It looks like a royal PITA.

Something like this could work: http://www.batteryjunction.com/wagan-2045.html

If the battery is disconnected you no amount of jumping or charging will work - the circuit is open. Taking out the back seat is about a ten minute job, easy to do.
The 'jump start terminal', G6430, is tied directly to X13769 (positive terminal) on G1 (the battery). As long as X6402 is not disconnected (negative from the battery to the chassis), then applying power to G6430 will act just like a battery.
If X6404 was disconnected from G1, then there is NO open circuit and the 'jump start terminal' will work just fine...

Humm... You've said this before but I think you are mistaken.

You may be right, I'm not an electrical engineer but still recommend he just pull the back seat - simple job and he'll be up an running in no time.
