Recalibrating it is the same thing. A recalibration basically "teaches" the car that its current level of inflation is "normal". That should clear the message.

My sister's Mini has this system too - the damn dealer told her that it couldn't be reset because the tires were out of balance! Talk about bad/dishonest service! I spent 5 minutes resetting the system and the light went off on her dash.
The service manager cleared it without recalibrating it though. I watched him from afar.

I am talking about the "Flat tire!" nav message and dash icon. FTM would not recalibrate while such message/icon was present.

Ding! We gotta winner!

On early model E60's, tire RPM's are counted - the system does not measure actual tire pressures. Tires with significant pressure differences will rotate at different speeds. This difference is detected by the FTM system and throws up a warning. In order to initialize the system, tires must be at rest - parked. The system won't allow you to reset until parked. Once the initialize command is sent, the system will monitor the tires and count the rpm's for a certain period of time. These will be stored as the baseline figures. Significant deviations will cause the warning flag. At least this is my understanding of the system.
Reverse Ding!

Sorry, that's not a winner.

Have you been able to resolve your problem?

I do not have a problem at the moment.

I was more so preparing for when/if it happens again and the stealer said it would because I have a plugged tire that is leaking.

I just didn't want to have to run to the stealer next time though.

Can you get the tire re-plugged so it doesn't leak? Where did you get it plugged? Most dealers will not repair a run-flat tire.
How badly is it leaking? If you add air before the pressure goes down too far you should be able to prevent the "flat tire" warning from coming on.
How much tread is left on the tire? It seems like this would be a nuisance to keep a leaking tire on for any length of time.
Good luck.

The original owner must have gotten it plugged.

It took about three weeks to lose 10 PSI. The tread appears marginal.

I plan to get it patched this weekend.

Eventually I will need brand new rear tires. I'm just not ready for that at this moment.

The easiest way to clear the message of the system is to go to the FTM screen put the car in park, let the system initialize wait a few secconds and trun off the car.... when you turn the car back on, check to see if you still get the message... this always works for me, and i usually do it stopped at red lights so it works failry quickly.
