Default HELP - E60 not starting - is it the CAS module ?

Hi, Iīm having a weird issue with my E60 - 520d LCI not starting.
Syntoms:
- Red steering lock warning ( I tried to clear it with Tool32, comes back instantly ).
- When engine is cold, I can start it without any problem.
- When engine is hot, inserting the key makes the radio come on. Pushing start causes relays chatter in the boot, no lights on dash, nothing else.
- If I unplug the battery and plug it again, engine can be started without problems.
- When I remove the key from ignition, the steering lock does not engage, nor the central locking opens as it should.
Reading this and others forums, I canīt make my mind if itīs the CAS module, the IBS, or something else ...
Any help appreciated !

When my CAS module failed, my car wouldn't start. Chatter in boot and all, I had to unplug and plug the battery again, just like yours. My car exhibited some of the symptoms you listed, plus the brake lights would come on and wouldn't turn off. I had to unplug the battery to get them to turn off. So yes, I would suspect your CAS has failed. Luckily I found a used CAS module and got it reprogrammed for a total of about US$300.

Thanks !
I was 80% sure that it was the CAS, but I could not find any mention to the relay chatter and the unplug/plug solution anywhere else, so I was still thinking that maybe it was an unrelated voltage issue.
Will send my CAS to get fixed.
