The Denso starters seem to go out on our cars between 60-80k miles. Must be a lousy solenoid design. It can be replaced on the M54 engines w/o removing the intake manifold. N52 engines have more junk in the way.

That's exactly what it is. The Northstar is the Cadillac engine and the starter is buried right in the middle of it.

awww, the famous northstar engines...worst engines ever made...as far as repair wise....i remember a buddy of mine did an oil pan gasket on a cadillac deville... and ministry of labour called 17 hours for that job.... basically the entire engine has to come apart in order to get access to it... very terrible...
