I noticed my fan in front running a lot harder over the weekend. I guess because the compressor was running so hot. The fan never sounded so loud before.

Well it's confirmed, the A/C belt is gone. Any ideas on cost to repair/replace in the Sacramento area. Must this be done at a BMW Dealership, it's not covered under warranty, it has 133K on it. Thanks

Try this website. It gives repair estimates based upon make, model, year, repair required. Zip Code driven, then gives you repair shops with ratings and reviews.

Belt is about $30. Replace both belts for about $45-$50. Time it takes is about 45 min because you have to take out the fan shroud support and then the fan. Requires T27 Torx bit I believe. So the tools may be the negative but you'll need them in future. Should probably cost you about $15. Very easy fix, just don't try to do this alone, I've replaced many belts and when it comes time to hold the tensioner down with the alan key you will need someone to slip the belt on. I was playing with the damn car for over an hour then i broke down and asked the Mrs. to help. We were done in 60 seconds.

While your at it, re-charge your system. We've discussed this several times this week. Recharge will cost you about $15-$25.

BTW, the belts may squeel a bit when at idle for the first couple hundred miles. It's ok let them break themselves in. Don't apply belt dressing right away, give it a few days.

Thanks for the break down and tips. I found a local guy that specializes in BWMs and hee estimated the repair at about $90-$100. I'm taking it in tomorrow. Thanks again!
