HELP!! Brake Pads Reset!

i had my brake pad indicator giving me a reminder to change my brake pads with in 1500 miles. there were just replaced about a year ago and i was trying to reset it and it went from 1400 miles to -9000?? what does this mean? iv'e tried reseting it but it will go back to 0 then switch back to -9000. Please any advice! thanks

Did you replace your brake sensors? If you didn't you have to do that FIRST then reset it.

im not sure to be honest. is the sensor on the brake pad it self or is it an attachment?

Its the sensor on the brake pad that leads to the wiring box.

It sounds like your brake pad sensor has already made contact with the rotor.

"BMW E60 models utilize a 2-stage break pad wear sensor. The wear sensor is used along with sensor data to determine brake pad life and remaining time until service.

If the brake pad wear sensor is partially worn and reinstalled after replacing pads and/or rotors, you won't be able to reset the service indicator."

A new / working sensor will measure 0.0 ohm to 0.5 ohm. At the "new resistance", the computer can be reset to start counting down the miles for the brake pad life.

The next stage is 470 ohm, at which the computer will count down the warning miles for the brake pad replacement.
