Do you have static on the CD and the radio or just the radio? And when you say TCU do you mean the telematics control unit ( phone/ communication module ) ? I am trying to see how they are related to each other.
Yeah, doesn't matter, CD or radio, static, completely random, static for 1 or 2 or 3 minutes then all is good, etc, etc, static, static, static, aaarrrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to have this exact same issue.

This was "fixed" by my dealership while my car was still under warranty by *DISABLING* the TCU. They said that this was standard procedure because I wasn't subscribing to BMW Assist.

In order for them to fix it properly, I then subscribed to BMW Assist for $200/year and they replaced it with a refurbished unit (again under warranty).

Since you are probably out of warranty, and if you don't care about BMW Assist, ask them how much to disable the TCU.

Good Luck.

Okay, I hope your right. I booked an appt. today to have them disable the TCU. They said they could 'bridge wire' it to eliminate the BT, NAV, and bmw assist.
($500). I hope it works!

Thanks for the tip!!

I guess, I know I don't want to pay $1500 to replace the TCU just to fix a static issue. And then another who knows how much for NAV (I don't have NAV right now)

I don't know...thoughts?
