Default Help with 545 software upgrade

Please Help!
I have been talking to a BMW Dealer about upgrading the software in my 05 545. He stated that the software in my car is a number of years backward.but warned that there is a 20 to 30% chance that some modules may not update or could crash and would have to be replaced.

What is you experience if any or what have you heard???

Any information or opinion is greatly appreciated.

They have to just tell you this due to liability. Just like a Dr, lawyer etc.
If it were me, I'd just do it myself and save the $. That way I would always be able to program, encode etc. It's a BMW I do not see why anyone would pay $300 for a single software update with contingencies when they can pay $150 to do it 1000x by themselves. $tealers love to blame You for the problems they have.

Default Software

I had my 05 545i at the dealer for the aux install and when I read the paper work before I pulled out it stated install failed, reloaded all software. I ask about this and he did state that since the car was older and sometimes they do have problems with software install. He stated that mine now has all the software updates an 05 545i should have.

I then asked if BMW puts out updates for my car and he stated no, he did mention how many years they update, but I forgot.

I know my dealer will check software version for free and let you know if there are any updates.

They have problems due to inexperience only. There should be no problems with software install on any E60 unless it is missing a control module which is related to the update, in which case it would abort. By this SA/Tech whatever telling you "has all the software updates an 05 545i should have." and then stating "I then asked if BMW puts out updates for my car and he stated no, " well that is a contradiction unless you misunderstood. Anyway the case is the last update for any 545 came out in 2011 and would be applied without a customer knowing on a complaint basis for a fix it was brought into the shop for. They're not going to put 2005 software on a module that was replaced in 2012. It doesn't work that way.
