Hi,
I have owned 2006 530i with smg mission (100k miles), and couple months ago my car had some problem with mission and had "transmission lock" which allowed me to only use first three gears while driving. I took it to the dealer and they suggested me to replace the hydraulic pump after running a diagnostics. After doing some researches in this forum, I asked them to first update the programs related to transmission and insert more hydraulic oil. After those two easy fixes, warning signs and the "transmission lock" was gone.
After a month, however, same problems occurred again, so this time I took my car to an indy shop, and the mechanic there told me to replace the slave cylinder(?) and change the mission oil. After that, warning sign was gone, BUT when I start and drive the car in the morning while the engine is cool, it kind of jumps when it's on drive for few minutes and drives normal after 10-20 minutes on the road. Also, when switching from first to second and third gear there were some shocks. I took it to the same shop and told them about the symptoms, and they added some hydraulic oil. After that, my car was driving so smoothly, it almost felt like the first time I bought my car six years ago.
Unfortunately, after couple days, my car went back to the same crappy jumping condition when start the car in the morning but would be ok after 10-20 minutes. I tried adding more hydraulic oil again, but it did not help much this time. The mechanic said they couldn't find signs for serious oil leakage.
At this point, what can I do to make this jumping when the engine is cool symptom go away? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

We're supposed to put in specific amount of trans fluid. Fill the fluid until it starts to drip, then put the fill-plug, start the car and go thru gears and wait until the trans reaches specific temperature, then open the fill-plug, pour more trans fluid until the fluid starts to drip, then put the fill-plug and tighten it.
Over-filled trans is as bad as under-filled trans.
Did the indy check the [BMW specific] trans codes? What were the code(s)?

Unfortunately, the hydraulic pumps are prone to failure with the SMG cars. It was one of the things that I heavily researched before purchasing my 2004 w/SMG. Im still shy of 30k miles, but I know that I'll eventually have to replace it and that it won't be a cheap repair.

The culprit is the pump, in my opinion : I replaced it 2-3 yrs ago.
If you download INPA you can check the SMG pressure, that must be.. don't remember, I had a file.
The put is something like $200 + 10 hours labour.

OP I think it is the slave cylinder position sensor in your case. I think your computer cannot read the exact position of the clutch slave at times causing your issue...
