My '04 545iA (21k miles, production date of 09/03) still shakes/jitters (feels rough) when the car is idling in Park or Drive. This occurs when the car is either cold or hot. Since my last visit to the dealer on April 5, my car shakes more when the car is in Drive idling. I have been in and out of my dealer for 3 times and of those 2 out of 3 times they have done the following:
1. Replaced Telematics Control U (TCU) and programmed vehicle on March 2, 2006
2. Installled CIP 220 April 5, 2006.

Can this be the similar issue to the recent post: 1 year old 545 required a major engine repair (SergeryM)
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=24356

Can someone please advise asap what else I can do to get the problem fixed? The car has been in the dealer 3 times. Should I take it to another dealer? Deal with the Service Manager? Contact BMW? Insist for them to replace the levers?

Thank you in advance.

I've got an Oct 2004 build. Same bloody problems since day 1. the car's been in and out of the workshop many times. BMW in Singapore finally decided last month they'd do something about it and ordered new cylinder heads. The car's still with them after more than two weeks. I'm scheduled for a test drive on Tuesday with those guys. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

So your problem is exactly like mine? They verified and confirmed the cylinder heads were bad and not the intermediate levers? Please post the results after you have driven your car with the new cylinder heads to see if the problem is fixed. Thank you.

Will do. They probably felt the valve levers, etc, were too complicated for the mechanics here and decided on a wholesale change. Would have preferred if they changed to a 4.8Li engine though

How often do you idle your car? Warming up the car in the morning? Waiting for a friend with the engine on? Etc...

Hi there.. I don't idle my car or leave the engine on when waiting for a friend. The only time is just the normal waiting at the traffic light, stop sign, waiting in traffic, putting on my seat belt and putting my personal belongings in the center console compartment, etc...

Today I spent about 3 hours at my dealership test driving an '04 545iA with 31,500 miles with the same production date as mine (09-03) and it does not shake the way it does with my car when idling at traffic lights. Although I must say when the car was in Park, I did feel an intermitten shake but nothing compared to my car.

I also test drove an '05 545iA with 7500 miles and it did not shake the way it does it with my car when it is in drive idling at traffic lights. However, when the car is in Park I did feel a slight intermitten shake but nothing compared to my car.

Thank you in advance.

You'll be surprised and frightened at how bad it can get. Sometimes you can see your knees shaking!!! I also do not idle my car whilst waiting for my wife, etc. With the price of petrol so high, who would? Its even worse during peak hour traffic.

I've told the guys here that I've had it and whatever they do with the car, please do it well because they positively will not hear from me regarding this issue again. If its cured, I'll be happy; if its not, then its time to part!!!

Collected my ride about an hour or so ago. Drove it for about an hour. I feel no shake so far. Seems the fix may have done some good. Will continue monitoring the situation.
