Hi I'm planning on getting a used 530 within the next month and I'm wondering if the i-drive screen is hard to see in the daytime? And if so can these screens be replaced with an aftermarket screen. SORRY if these questions are newbie tpye questions but I am one. I searched and didn't find anything about daylight readability on screen mods

welcome. there is no problem seeing the idrive screen during the daytime. the screen is enclosed so there is no problem. as for replacing it with an aftermarket screen, i tried to search and go through the topics because i remember a little while back when a member changed the screen and took out the whole enclosure. sorry i cant seem to find it, maybe someone else could. other than that, enjoy the forums.

I have a 8 month old 530 D. I have no problem reading the screen even in brilliant sunlight (when we get it in the UK)

The screen also has a sensor (see small hole under screen) that adjusts the brightness to make it readable in most light conditions. You can also adjust the brightness manually.

The screen is very bright and is fine from the factory. In the I-Drive menu you can adjust the brightness. I never found the need to adjust the brightness all the way up. The e 60 5 series is a great car. I am getting my second e60 shortly.

BMW iDrive screen is nothing like Lexus/Toyota ones. Unlike those touch screen from Toyota, which is wiped out under direct sunlight, you can see it more crisp and clear under direct sunlight. I don't think any aftermarket screen can match it.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about seeing it under sunlight

The central information display (CID) is perfectly visible -- even in direct sunlight. The term "transreflective" comes to mind -- not sure if that's the right term or not to describe things but just rest assured that you'll always be able to see the screen, regardless of the lighting conditions...

Thanks for the replies. I have a Transflective monitor that I was thinking of selling if I don't need it to try and do a aftermarket upgrade
