Isn't there a recall for this problem? Why don't you guys just take the car in and get it fixed?

Well it has just happened to me yesterday. While driving home from work on the expressway, there was this horrible burning smell and then I realized my pants were on fire (not really) there was a burn mark on my pocket. But, I did realize that I was the victim of the heated seats recall . There is a burn hole on the left side bolster after inspecting the seat.

After going through my mail when I got home, low and behold, the recall notice for this issue. How funny is that.

I called my BMW service dept this morning and explained to them what happened. They basically apologized up and down and told me that I can bring in my 545 whenever I want in order to get this remedied and they will give me a loaner from Enterprise that will be a BMW since there service appointments were booked until the end of the month. I guess they realized that this is a major issue and they do not want a law suit on their hands. This dealership is owned by BMWNA.

i hope your dealer will do something more than just fixing the problem. probably give you a check for new pants or gift cert from their parts dept.

Checked with technician at my dealer yesterday. He heard of some recall a few weeks back but was not sure what it was about. He had been on holiday since then but says that letters should be going out from the dealer in the next few weeks as soon as they checked all the affected chassis numbers of the cars they've sold from the dealership.

Anyone in the UK got recall letters yet?

Anyone got details what gets changed during this recall? Is it the whole seat? Part of seat? Faulty Heating Element replaced? Extra parts added? Just wondering.

Got a phone call from my dealer today to confirm my question 2 days ago about the heated seat recall. My car is affected and they asked me to book it in for the work. Also my car is also affected by another recall. Not sure about the details of the second recall as the phone reception was not great. Will find out next week what its about when its been done.

Anyone aware of another recall for the E60 recently?

This is why I'm waiting before ordering this car . BMW has to get all (or most) of the the kinks worked out first.
