I've noticed a burning smell everytime I switch on my driver's heated seat. It needs to get warm before I smell this burning electrical smell. I don't get this smell when the passenger's heated seat is on. Has anyone experienced similar? Surely a fuse would blow if there was anything wrong?

There were issues in early cars with this, with some heaters actually burning through the leather seat cover. What year is your car? Either way, take it to the dealer, it needs to be corrected.

I'll be calling the dealer in the morning.
Thanks for the advice.

A dealer gave me great service and looked at it immediately. He swiped my ignition key thereby looking up the history of my car. We let the seat warm up thoroughly and the service manager inspected it. He said he had come across a similar smell where someone had treated the leather with an OEM leather polish. He said he had never known of a dangerous situation caused by heated seats.
That's good enough for me. He has put my mind at rest.
The BMW dealer is Stephen James, Ruxley.
