When I turn the car off after driving with the heated seats turned on, the next time I start the car the seat heater starts up again.Has anyone had this happen, is this a fault or is it supposed to work this way ??

noticed this happen aswell. worse if you have heated rear seats and a passenger doesn't switch them off - you wouldn't find out they had been on for ages.

In my 116i, the heated seats will turn on if you return to the car within 15 minutes or so. Otherwise they will be off. I havent had time to check this in my new 525dT.

gorban is correct. Once the car goes to sleep (after approx 16 minutes) the heaters will not come back on again. It's the same with the steering wheel heat and some other stuff relating to climate control, etc.
