Heated Door Mirrors
How warm are your heated door mirrors? Mine are barely warm (if indeed on at all). Even with the heated rear windscreen (which somepeople have told me I need on to warm the mirrors) turned on the mirrors dont get warm at all.
My previous E39 525 had steam coming from the mirrors whenever it rained - no chance of that with my E60
Any views?

Are you having problems with the mirrors fogging or something? I don't ever remember steam coming off any of my heated mirror equipped cars but, more importantly, they never fogged up and if there was ice on them, it quickly thawed once the heaters were activated.
Unless I'm missing the point, as long as they do the job they were designed to do, I suppose everything is fine. Right?

What actives the heated outside mirrors? I have the cold weather package.
Is it the rear defogger? The steering wheel heater? The heated seats? So much heat.

On my E60 when you touch the mirror with your hand it is difficult to tell if on. When I drive my car off in the moring now that winter is near and the mirrors are covered in condensation, they do not clear. I have to lower the window and clear manually with a cloth. I don't think they are doing the job they were designed for. We have not had ice yet but I suspect if this does melt (ie if the mirors ARE working) then it will take a long time to clear. On my E39 any ice cleared within a minute or two after starting the car.
Is this normal or is there a fault!

on my E46 the mirrors only heated up if the rear window heater was ON. so far I have not used this at all so have assumed that the mirror heaters likewise have never been ON yet either.
would be odd if the mirrors were active just because the key was in pos 2 as someone stated above.

I think the reason for the mirrors not being so hot is that it keeps them cleaner. The ones on my MB were always on aswell and very warm. As a result there was always a layer of dried up dirt on them. These are a lot better IMO.
