I am not sure if my heated mirrors are working:-

On my last E39 (525D) the mirrors were heated all the time and were always fairly hot to the touch.

On my new E60 (530D) I cannot detect any heat (if there is any then it is barely noticable). Does the heated rear screen need to be on or the outside temperature below a certain level for them to work.

The annoying thing is previosly on my old car the heat would dry off any condensation/rain on the mirrors whereas now this does not seem to happen.

I reported to my dealer but he insists they are working but I am unsure

Try steaming them up by breathing on them

I know what you mean, the heated mirrors on my mini cooper S are warm to the touch after about 3 mins of driving (luke-warm not hot)

Heated door mirrors only work if you have the heated rear window activated. They are not on all the time as this would simple burn out the heated element. Have you tried switching on your heated rear window?

I know for a fact that all of my old 3 Series had the heating switched on all the time, I wonder why they changed it with the E60.

Hi,

I'm sure i read in the manual that the mirrors are heated all the time when you switch the car on.

Cheers.

Both the seat and back are heated.
You can conrol the amount on each with the I-drive configuration.

No iDrive control of the REAR seats, just front.

According to the Owner's Manual (not that that means anything, depending on which software version you have), "Both exterior mirrors are automatically heated in ignition key position 2." It makes no mention heating only when the rear defroster is turned on, although that would seem to make sense.
