I did this 3 times on my e34 looked great for a while until the glue released again. I used the 3m adhesive from the auto parts store. I'm having some issue with my e60 slide and a pillars releasing from the boards. I just odered a complete alcantra set from eBay it came out of a 06 m5 it will fit right? Do I need to replace any clips when I remove the old liner? I will post pics when I get it in the next week or so.

So I guess you are saying that the 3M Headliner spray glue is not good enough for the job? I have 2 cans on my workbench right now. Any other alternatives?

For the clips, I was able to remove everything without braking any clips. However I had a few of the ABS snaps break (by me or previous owner). I have all the parts in my garage, would it be worth wild to anyone for me to take pictures of them for later reference on where the clips are?

How did you get the sunroof door off did you have to remove the glass? I haven't seen much written about that online.

I did the headliner in a couple previous cars many years ago. What I recall:

It's all in the glue you use. Most off-the-shelf headliner sprays are NOT sticky enough, and start to sag, or don't adhere well in the first place. Had to do my headliner twice as a result. Sounds like the OP found a good one, but beware of Auto-store brands, even 3M.
I used stretchable foam-backed fabric, and had no issues getting it on with no wrinkles. For non-stretchable fabric, you'd have to be pretty skilled in making cuts in the corners to let the pieces lie flat and at the same time have the edges meet up just right.
Fabric/material - make sure it's UV-resistance and won't fade.

Yeah that would be a great idea to let us know exactly where the clips are, and also the 3m glue is suspect I would not use it unless you have time to redo your headliner in 6 to 8 months from now.

How did you get the slider off did you have to remove the glass or once you remove the liner you can access the slider.

I did remove the sunroof glass to be able to remove both the slider and the main headliner. The slider is holding in place with 4 screws. You will need to access them from the top. There is a large quantity of small screws all around the rim to the sunroof holding the headliner up.

I will take pictures of the clips this week and post them.

I just did a small test with the 3M headliner glue. I waited 20 minutes and 10 minutes for the glue to set and become tacky. I think the 10 minutes gives a better finish because you have to press the fabric down and it seems that the glue bounces back better. In both cases, it appears that the fabric is very well glued (I don't know the impact of time and heat). I will try 5 min glue set on Tuesday.

Default damn damn damn

So I have to remove the damn glass to just replace the friggin headliner to alcantra set that I brought. Wow that really seems to be to much, I did not have to do that on my e34 even though it was a metal roof there has got to be a easier way . Can't wait to see the pics

I tried to recover a few of the smallest pieces and I did not get good results. I will get a quote from a local upholstering place on Monday to just glue the the fabric to the parts.

Seems that even after days of being set, the foam under the fabric is very sensitive to finger imprints. It is the glue, the fabric or the foam?

I messed up a piece and had to redo it. The glue is very solid. Everything ripped except for the glue part. No fun at all.
