Yep, I've used it on light colors and it worked well. Plus it doesn't have a chemical smell.

My Ride: 2008 535i LCI with sports/premium package, Sports trans with paddle shifters, CF emblems, JB4 Software, Dinan Exhaust, Navigation, M5Tech body kit, Carbon wrap interrior trim and CIC Controller.

The drains for the front are on either front corner area (side). You can see the drain holes with the glass retracted and will probably need a light to shine in there. The rear I don't think you can see due to the mechanics of the roof. The water discharge area for the front is just in front of the lower door/fender area and for the rear its by the wheel area. If you are going to test them, then I would try and position the car so that the water would run in the area you are expecting and do one at a time until you confirm the water is discharging. Maybe use a small cup or something to have better control.
