Default Headlight washer goes on when opening trunk

Car: BMW 523i E61 2006

A very strange sound started ta appear a few days ago when opening trunk. Today I did understand where the sound comes from. The headlight washer goes on for a few seconds after opening the trunk (both with button above number plate and key remote control). This happens every time when I open the trunk for the past two or three days.

During these days I have been playing around with WinKFP and ISTA/P as a newbie updating some modules including the Body Basic Module (KBM). Can that have some impact on this issue?

Before this I also had another issue connected to Body Basic Module, itīs related to rear wiper. Body Basic Module canīt pull up wiper relay. Relay is verified as working, signal i there without relay but when adding a relay coil the signal disappears.

Can the Body Basic Module be faulty?

I don’t have any words of wisdom about the problem. Just an anecdote about a similar strange problem.

I used to own an E32 750iL. After a trip to the dealer, my washer fluid seemed to drain very quickly. It had not been raining, so I started looking for leaks.

Then one day I noticed bubbles on the hood, like the headlight washers had activated. But no proof. Car had been parked a few days. Seemed odd, but no idea how it happened.

It was beautiful sunny day, car all polished and sparkly, I went over to the neighbors to hang out in their back yard. We were standing around admiring the cars when suddenly my headlight washers started pumping spray all over my car. We were all stunned. The car had been parked and locked for almost an hour when this happened. Strangest thing.

Never figured out why and not sure it ever happened again. But for at least a few weeks, it was going off on its own. I miss that car, the old gal had personality plus.

Best guess, some interference on the LIN bus. The end node is getting the wrong signal.

LIN bus intro basics

This type of issue can be really tricky to track down. Having an oscilloscope is essential to monitor interference. Unless you get lucky and find something like a bad ground, shorted wire or corroded connection.

Yes I did, but I don't remember the details so I can't explain exactly.

Before this happened I had been fiddling and edit some configuration with an ICOM interface. I don't remember which software I did use, I think it may have been INPA. Anyway, the solution was to reset all custom configuration to default.

I had a similar issue when I used Carly to code some option. I reverted the coding, but it was certainly eye opening to see how a wrong selection can lead to behavior you'd think was impossible.

I started having the same problem when i coded the automatic headlight washer off. The washers went on every time I opened the tailgate window. After coding the automatic washer on again the problem disappeared.

I've had this on a 2005 E61 535d.

When you do a certain coding with Carly (turning off these washers) this is the result.
This can be fixed by turning the headlight washers back on with a coding device.

Carly will code this. Code it back on and the problem is gone.

And how to fix it with carly, if problem does not get solved? Is there any way for factory reset of module via Carly or Bimmer code?
