Hello from the new Guy! (first BMW).
Passenger headlight turned pink the other day, figured out the bulb is on its way out. I have a 2005 545i with HID's. I did some searching to try and find a place to order a replacement (dealer wants $270 for bulb). Anyone out there recommend a good place to buy that won't throw an error? I called NAPA and they want $80 for a replacement. Anyone have any experience with their bulbs?
Should I go OEM? I checked Bavauto.com and pelicanparts.com, as well as getbmwparts.com. Ive seen some of the Japanese replacements for $120 a set. Are they any good?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

Yea, HIDs go pink/dim when they fail. Best to replace both at the same time.
E60s with HIDs use a D2S bulb, I believe made by Osram, but as long as it is a D2S size bulb, it will work. I'd stay away from the Japanese sets and stick with either Osram or Philips...both are OEM suppliers to automakers and both come with 4300k light output. I've mostly used Philips in retro-fits I've done: D2S 85122. They also make a bulb (85122+) that's supposed to be a bit whiter, but I can't really tell the difference.
They usually go for $30-40/ea. Sometimes you can find them cheaper on eBay if you look; but make sure the auction is for Osram or Philips and not some cheap knockoff.
