It's actually pretty easy and the link for the AE install will be clear for you.
Note that of 2 fasteners at the bottom of the lamp housing - those get loosened NOT removed!! If you unscrew them too far they might drop into the bowels of the front of the car.

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.

What do you need to pull the headlamp assemblies for? Angel eyes? It can be done without removing anything...not even the radiator guard. Its a PITA, but doable. Took about 30 min for both, maybe a little more.
