Headlight Paint
Anyone ever have headlights or taillights painted, and then decide it was too dark and want to take it off?
Is there a way to do this without destroying the lights?

...or be told by the po-po to fix it...
I bet you'd have to sand off the paint then sand with progressively finer sandpaper, then finish with buffing compound then polishing compound. Good luck and don't overheat the lenses whilst sanding.

It really depends on what type of paint was used. If it was a typical spray can, then you are in good shape. If it's professional automotive paint, you are probably wishing right now it was a spray can! IF it is from a spray can, I would start with some mineral spirits and see if that has any effect. It's possible and probably won't affect the lens. If not, then try automotive paint reducer. This should get it off and typically doesn't affect the lens unless keeping it on for a long time. BUT AS ALWAYS, you MUST test a small area of the lens FIRST. Laquere thinner would be too strong and most likely damage the lens. In any method, I would dampen the rag with the cleaner and have a dry rag in the other hand to wipe off and not allowing the cleaner to sit on the lens.
Audiophool also has a good idea but this will be a lot of work, but could be worth it if it becomes your only choice.

Just don't use paint period.
As another member said, you're most likely going to get a ticket or two.
If you must, go with vinyl instead. They can be any shade of color you want, and easily reversible. Not to mention they would act as a layer of protection.
