Dealer just intalled a new clutch in my '05 545i and it's not as smooth as it was before. Initially it was very light and easy to push the pedal down which is normal and has tightened up in the last 1,000 miles or so but there is a spot about half way up the pedal travel (upon release) that has a little knick in it and then it grabs thus making it hard to drive smoothly. It's not me, my M3 is smooth as silk and I have been driving stick for 20 years.

BTW, my wife fried the last one...ouch!

Any ideas on what it could be? I need to schedule an appointment i think to have it checked out!

Thanks!

Like brake pads, your clutch may need some wearing in. Did they resurface or replace the pressure plate?

They replaced the ppressure plate. I've driven it 1000 miles since install, that not enough?

The pressure plate should loosen-up after a while. It sounds like it's still a bit tight.

As far as the miles, it depends on how many times you depress the clutch. Just make sure you don't beat it up too much before the clutch disk breaks in with the new plate, or your be replacing it after only a few thousand miles.
