Out of curiosity, has anyone else had BMW assist "grey out" on their cars, making it impossible to scroll to & therefore use? If so, is it intermittent, or is it like that all the time? And, if so, have you had any luck in getting BMW to extend your subscription free of charge to compensate for it not working?

As most of you know, we've had some pretty bad problems with our car. My husband doesn't have a cell phone, so he's relied on Assist working when he's had an issue. Unfortunately, several times it didn't work when he needed it to. Almost the entire time we've had our car (just under a year), Assist has given us trouble. At first, it wouldn't connect-- it would say "transmission error." Then, it started to grey out. It's been at least 4 months since it's worked in our car, and every dealer swears it is working, but it doesn't. I keep getting renewal notices, and I don't want to pay for something that doesn't work in our car. I also feel like the least BMW could do is extend it for us to at least compensate somewhat for the multiple dealers' incompetences that I've had to deal with and lack of being able to use a service that was supposed to be included. FINALLY, at our last service visit, after them first saying, "oh, your selling dealer never activated it" (bull s&%$, they did it with us & it worked fine when we first got the car), I had to beg them to look further into the problem. Then they discovered (big surprise) a problem with the TCU. Currently it is working, so hopefully, it was fixed. Now I just want my Assist!

Do you think it is reasonable or unreasonable for me to try to get this from my dealer/BMW? Do you think they would even be capable of doing something like this?

It certainly is reasonable to ask for an extension in service. I had an issue with On Star in my Cadillac, didn't work for 3 months. Eventually it was fixed and they extended my service by 4 months for the inconvenience.
