Ok, one more thing. I just called my dealer and they said they have had difficulties changing the TCU to enable bluetooth. Their exact words were that it "crashed" the cars computers. This sounds like bs.

The dealer is feeding you sh!t. From your pic, you might need a newer TCU. Since your build date is the earlier one that BT was not installed yet. I switched to a newer TCU and the dealer programmed it without any issues.

Here is a pdf regarding retrofit.

+1 - Here's the skinny. Early model E60's were originally planned to have Bluetooth. However, a hardware problem in the TCU with bluetooth and BMW Assist activated (possibly processor-related) prevented roll-out, so the Bluetooth module hardware was disabled. Even though your TCU has the nice lil Bluetooth logo on it, the system cannot be activated. In March 2004, the defect was corrected and rolled out. In oder for you to have Bluetooth, you'll need a Bluetooth-capable TCU (03/2004 and newer, but BMW says MY 2005 and newer for retrofits), coding to CIP 13.2 and newer w/bluetooth activation, and all related hardware (antenna, cradle, wiring, etc). In the US, telephone prewiring included bluetooth prewiring as well. The spade connector you mentioned in your trunk is for the hard-wired cellular telephone option (the "cradle"). Your car is prewired for such.

Ok, I appreciate your responses. I see now that the dealer is full of shit. I'm going to take off my TCU and look on the back side for a sticker and verify it is not one of the models listed under SI 84 15 05 which dictates what TCU models from 7/03 through 3/04 DO NOT have the ability of being updated via software to activate and use bluetooth.

The models are:

84116 937338
84116 938782
84116 942592

According to my indy shop they are more than willing to perform this update for a simple $150.

They also stated that I have a bluetooth antenna onboard as well.

Very interesting. Any thoughts?

I've also attached the SI for viewing.

$150 is a great deal as long as they know what they are doing. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

That's a great alternative from OEM for both iPod and BT integration.
