I have a pre 3/04 (9/03) built 530 with premium package. I've been reading tons of information and trying to get my understanding of Bluetooth in my car. I am planning on making a stop at the dealer to discuss TCU replacement. But, before I do that I have a few questions to pose to the board:

1. I currently have the assist option in idrive and the sos button overhead. When I try to select it to test it it says please contact my dealer. I'd like to test out my microphone communications before I dive into the BT thing. Anyone know how to test this? Is the message I'm receiving due to not having a current subscription with bmw assist?

2. I have read conflicting discussions of microphones in the car. Is there 2 or 1 overhead? Is there anything special regarding mics I need to test or know before I go to the dealer?

3. I'd like to check to see if I have a bluetooth antenna. I've looked over realoem.com and I am having a hard time figuring out what to look for in my trunk. I see the TCU, satellite radio, logic 7 and MOST bus when i look in the trunk. Can anyone point me in a direction or take a picture of what it looks like?

4. I do not have a cd changer in the trunk. Right behind the cd changer I see 2 connectors not being used that appear to be antennas of some sort (one has a spade connector inside what looks similar to the sirius antenna connector. I'll attach a picture later if I can get it off my phone.

5. Does anyone know how to remove the 2nd plastic cover in the trunk. I'm kinda not liking bending it all up and stabbing myself with the hard plastic edges.

Thoughts?

1. do you not have the phone option in your idrive menu? at the top?
4. did you check the back of your glovebox for a cd changer?

When you open up the panels inside the trunk, you should see this. The smaller metal box is the TCU. Check and see if there is a BT symbol. That would tell you whether the TCU is BT capable.

Excellent info. I gotta check this out because I can't stand that my car doesn't have the BT option. If I can get this enabled it would be amazing!

You should. Especially, if you only need software upgrade. It should cost no more than $200 from Dealers.

Here's what I've got. A little odd I must admit, unless the label is on the other side. As for a phone option in the idrive, yes I do have that option but, It doesn't allow me to do anything.

What's the best way to see I have a bluetooth antenna onboard?
