My Ride: April 2007 520D M Sport LCI. Automatic. Sunroof. BMW Bluetooth. Deep Sea Blue Metallic, Natural Brown Leather.
Have noticed the last few times I went to start the car after leaving it parked up for a couple of days that the brake pedal is right at the top of its travel and doesn't want to move.... as soon as the engine is started and the vacuum system charges up, the pedal moves to where it is normally.
Is this normal behaviour or a sign of something wrong? Leaking hose, contaminated brake fluid???

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Unusually hard brake pedals are usually the fault of the (vacuum) accumulator tank that (at least used to be) is mounted under the dash, above the pedal. When they fail, you have to really work the pedal. In your case though, it sounds as though the system has to charge itself upon start-up and then everything is back to normal. Have never noticed it on my 04, but it sounds as though it is routine.

Has been discussed before here.
No problem - it's normal.
