Hands OFF the auto transmission shift handle while driving

The thing is, when i have my hand on the shifter and the car is stationary, i can feel some sort of mechanical whirring or movement within..

Where does this come from if there is no mechanical link between the gearbox and the gearshift mechanism?

Just curious.. hehe..

I use my manual shift a lot and flipping into and out of DS. I rest my hand nearly 90% of time in city driving (2 hands on wheel when up to highway speeds). I've tried seeing how little pressure it takes to shift manually and doing the flipping in / out of DS. In no way could I make anything happen by resting my hand on shifter. The detents/tension is simply too great for accidental actions by "resting" or even a little "twitching". Not on this tranny.

Well the actually shift knob is a mechanical piece, it just engages the electronics which engage the transmission based on which position it is in. So you might just be feeling the mechanics of the shift knob vibrating due to the engine.

I use normally manual mode of the tranny, so keep often my hands on, to change

once n the begining in D I put car in N somehow maybe pressed it a bit but checked w service and no issue...yeah that was long ago

I keep it more in 6th and the car likes it, but when I switch back that is the fun today up a hill a rice car wanted to race from roll and still respecting speed limit E60 blown that away you should have seen his galfriend looking at a flying MAMBA with roars

I have a habit of doing this alot. I tried today to see a difference in the shifting when I hold it vs. not holding it. I didn't notice any difference. However, I did realize that as I hold it I am sort of pulling back on it at the same time. I could see how that maybe could be bad.
