Default Had to set date and time

So I got into my baby on Sunday to drive four hours to Mom’s. The car had “forgotten” the date and time. I had last driven it 3 days prior. When I got back in Monday to drive home, date and time remembered.

Anything to worry abut? If it does it again, should I be thinking about a new battery? It is of unknown age to me and I have never even looked at it...in the trunk somewhere, right?

Well, I think I finally found it. I had used the search without luck but as I read a post about a faulty cluster I ran across:

Time/Date resetting issues are known to be cause by a faulty IBS sensor which is built in to negative battery cable. (IBS = Intelligent Battery Sensor). You might want to look into that!

The fact that you let your car sit for 3 days might've depleted battery enough to go into power saving mode which does reset the clock. I've had this happen when my old battery was on it's way out.

Another thing that can happen is the car will automatically power off the radio if you don't have the car running if the voltage gets too low.

I would think about getting a new battery considering you have no history on it. Battery is in the rear passenger corner trunk.

Sorry for the long delay in replying...

Thanks for the replies. It has sat much longer w/o incident, it is my rainy day vehicle, secondary to my K1200LT.

I would expect that all recall service has been done as I bought it from the dealer after their service work and it has been back for coding a key fob.

I haven't started it since that Monday, a week ago, but will drive it tomorrow and see what happens - fingers crossed.

Well, she started up just fine this morning and the date and time were remembered.

Mine did this too when the battery was nearing its EOL. It did it peopiodically for about 3 months, and got worse as the weather got colder

Thanks Jeff. I’ll keep an eye on it. I don’t have to worry about any cooler weather for many months since I’m in AL. I’m nearing 100k and have several things to service, the battery just got added to the list.
