My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Last night I was moving may car in my driveway and a message appeared: "Passenger Restraint System Malfunction" I have seen this reported several times here but this is the first non-maint related msg I have ever gotten. I wonder how long the dealer will need my car for? Also, what the hell causes this?

My Ride: Coming soon...
My 323i had the same issue. It was the pressure mat in the seat. Apparently there is also a sensor in the seatbelt clasp, but that's a cheaper fix so you know it can't be the problem!

I called my dealer about this error and got a resounding "nope" not covered. This was never a recall, it was a class-action lawsuit in 2007. The results were a set number of VINS that were covered under the settlement and anyone's VIN that wasn't in that class action is not included (which means me).
I also called BMWNA to confirm this. So, if you're out of warranty, you will not get this fixed free.

Looks like it was only for 04/05 E60 models produced on or before 3/31/05 still under warranty, hope you are within that.
