Just painted my earlier today with semi gloss high heat resistant spray paint, didn't do a very good job with the spray paint though so planning to do it again this weekend but it looks very nice, especially the glossy part which goes very well with the shinny jet black color.

CHROME ALL THE WAY

the entire face and definition of a BMW is represented in its chrome grill, once you paint it black, it will be just like any other car, with no unique aspect that makes it stand between all those other cars

i think moving to black isnt an upgrade, its more like a "downgrade"
sorry if i offended those who've just spent their dollars on black grills

I wouldn't consider this mod to be either an upgrade or downgrade. It's all personal taste. I left my chrome grill on for several months but to me, it does not look right some how due to the fact that my E60 is jet black and the chrome grill does not look nice at all. Don't get me wrong, chrome grill looks nice on other model such as the 6 and 7 series but it looks out of proportion somehow on the 5 so I finally decided to paint it semi-gloss to match the paint.

Chrome grills on a black car I think looks good. There is a good contrast between the color of the car and the grills. However,I have a Silver-Gray (A08) 545i and the chrome grills just don't look right to me. I opted for black carbon fiber grills, I love the look and the contrast is perfect.

I did the black and am looking to go back to chrome. Looks cheapy with my color car. IMHO, dark colors can pull it off but lighter colors just don't look right. If any of you guys have a OEM chrome grill you want to sell please pm me. I broke tabs off of mine during the take off process.

Do not like the black. From a distance it looks like someone stole your grills...........

paint it semi gloss or gloss and you'll still be able to see it from a distance due to the light reflection.
