I'm in the process of buying an E60 facelift. Of course theft is not the first thing I want to think about, but, hey, this car is pretty desirable, so some extra protection seems warranted. Has anyone experience with a retrofitted GPS tracking device?
Any advice on what to get and what to avoid? There seem to be a lots of systems out there (SMS or voice communication; with or without monthly fees, something that retains the last known GPS location, or even systems that send information obout the exact GSM pole it is communicating through in case there is no GPS signal).

Isn't that part of BMW Assist's Stolen Vehicle Recovery option?

Yes, it it. Having BMW Assist helps lower the insurance too. Same exact thing as Lojack.

Almost. lojack has a few optional features like early warning - not that I would recommend anyone with SVR get lojack mind you.

If you're in the US BMW Assist is taking care on that.
