Yea, fortunately there was no one in the back seat. The latest estimate back from the body shop..$14.5k, return date of March 2.

At least this will keep me from continuing to log 4k miles each month. My car was bought in July and I have added 24k miles.

14.5K?? Wow, that didn't look like 14.5K! Most importantly, you are okay, cars come and go, but the people are irreplaceable!!

Sure. There is a door, inner door panel, door airbag, curtain airbag rear and back, window, door trim, skirt, rear fender, gas door, frame parts and pieces, then disassembly, painting and fixing labor, supplies, and parts. Then SRS systems - pretensioners, belts, etc. Then programming of the car. Then rental car. etc, etc.

No one was seriously injured, we all walked away. Her shoulder hurts (this may have been caused by the restraint system?) but no bruises, and my neck and back are sore, but no one went to the hospital.

The emotional shock was probably the worst of it.

My rental reeks of smoke I am going to ask for an exchange today. I'm surprised the Aura does not get better gas mileage given its 4 cyl engine.

Yes and No, I guess. The body shop is actually behind the Saturn dealership. They are part of the Momentum Group and my contact has Momentum BMW on her biz card.
