The last thing you want to do is spend a couple grand in increased insurance premiums over the next 3 years for a few hundred dollars worth of damage.
with the economy right now you could file the claim, if they raise your rates through the roof call them and say im going to cancel if those rates are going to increase like that. If they still increase it, go somewhere else. Insurance companies are begging for business right now. take advantage!! i just switched from progressive. my last 6 month policy was $629. they then raised it to $777. I had no accidents or tickets and they just raised it. I called them and said thats not happening. they said yes it is. I said ok, SEEEE YA! Switched to a new company with the same policy and even added $2000 coverage on my miros and its only costing me 510 every 6 months

Thanks guys.

The repair shop will repaint the side skirt for $178. Rear wheel damage isnt really visible, its a scratch but i will try to get that repaired as well.

Gary said it would cost $474 to replace the entire wheel!!

+1. Unless the damages is at least a few thousand dollars, I would not submit an insurance claim as your carrier will likely soak you with increased premiums that exceed the insurance payout.

I feel your pain. I totally scraped up my right rear wheel in my last ride coming out of an ATM when (counting my tens and twenties -- not hundreds Calvin ) I rubbed up against a high curb. I was lucky that it did not mess up my side skirts.

Oh well, happens to all of us.

If that's the size of the bill, it seems too small to make a claim against your insurer. Even if you do change, the more "loss experience" (paid claims) you have, the higher your premiums will be.

Insurance companies thrive on people who file these little bitty claims. It gives them the data necessary to increase your premiums and, in some cases, to terminate and black list you. In Colorado the insurance company is prevented, by statute, from doing anything to discourage you from filing a claim. Who do you suppose got that law passed and why?

Thus, insurance companies in Colorado can't tell you that you are about to violate their underwriting standards if you file your next claim.
