Cops earn enough to own a 550? I thought they were poorly paid. Even detectives in NYC earn less than $50k don't they?
550's are down to 28k in my area.

That sucks, now I'm a bit concerned about my B&B exhaust, it's a BIT noisy!

Jeez your Police are strict out there. Our Police here wouldn't do that unless the noise was seriously taking the piss.

LOL @ the fact he didn't know what an E60 was.

Damn - you guys are truly family to me. I definately appreciate any advice given. It was indeed a fix-it ticket, so a trip down to the station with a few bucks in hand should take care of it. But...damn. I'll be paranoid over the exhaust from here on out. As for the license plate, I'll have to take pics of what I did with that damned thing. What I was not gonna do, however, is drill into my bumper. Thank God for zip ties (I did it as the bastard watched from the lot they pulled into after they were done law-raping me).

By and large, most cops I come across are great. Just doing a job not many are willing or able to do, and I appreciate 'em for it. Unfortunately, profiling also comes into play, especially in certain areas. That part of the valley isn't exactly the garden spot of LA, so I guess a stop was fairly inevitable. Sux, but it happens. I need to keep my ass near Joe's crib in O.C!

Yup, just as the title says - I got a ticket last night. The ticket is for - get this - modified exhaust and front license plate. Remus reps, anyone available? I was told the Remus exhaust is 50-states legal. The exhaust truly isn't too loud - a nice low rumble but nothing compared to the fart cans driving around. The officer stated that his stock 550 isn't that loud. Go figure. I guess I'll have to take it to the CHP for inspection. He pulled me over at 35mph. I was at that speed constantly - no revs above 3500. The plate violation came after he pulled me over and walked around the car. Ah well. Sigh.
Do you have the specific exhaust for the 545i/550i or is it a universal?
Are there any other modifications to your exhaust line?

The TUV/EC certificate holds no legal value in the US, however the decibel output is equal to OEM, only the sound frequencies are altered which is what gives a deeper tone, it does not increase the dB output.

I'm not sure what the law is in your specific state, however if you believe the TUV approval can help, send us an email at info@remusexhaustshop.com and we'll send you one.

No surprise. California is bankrupt. They gotta find money where they can. It's going to get worse. Sounds like a defense verdict comming. Good luck.

Yeah, my buddy got pulled over on the 60 the other day for just tints. No moving violation or anything else. He has a bone stock Acura TL. Can you believe that?

Taking care of a fix-it-ticket like this in CA is relatively simple. First, make sure it is a fix-it-ticket by looking at the front side of the citation to ensure that next to each violation, the normally empty box is checked.
If it is checked, it is a "fix-it-ticket"....if not, you're in for more pain....
Let's assume it is. Simply take the vehicle to the closest CHP office where they will verify that your license plate is LEGALLY and SECURELY mounted and visible from the front. Your choice how you do this and there are many "acceptable" options. Then they will use a decibel meter to determine whether or not your vehicle meets CA noise level standards. Make sure your car is completely warmed up...really warmed up, beffore you park it and wait for them to come out and take the measurements.
You should be fine....assuming what the REMUS rep wrote in his reply. You will have to pay a peace officer service fee of at least $10 for each of the violations and that must be sent to the issuing jurisdiction's superior court. Directions are on the reverse side of the citation.
One other thing, unless the exhaust, intake or other aftemarket engine modification comes with a California Air Resources Board (CAR certification number (and sometimes a mountable engine plate, like for example DINAN or K&N do) then they are not CARB approved and therefore NOT LEGAL in California.
