He was clueless as to what an E60 was.
You did the right thing just driving away--futile to say the least!

Cops earn enough to own a 550? I thought they were poorly paid. Even detectives in NYC earn less than $50k don't they?

HAHAHAHA! What a naive statement. Read this for your amusement. We're in the wrong business:

He was just hatin' cuz your 545i looked nicer than his 550i.
Last time I got stopped by the cops (here in Germany) was when I had a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo in red. Once we got the issue of my license plate out of the way (which they thought looked like I'd stolen the car right out of a showroom because the number was "300"), the two of them were keen to look under the hood at the mods I'd made (to beef it up to 450BHP) and they were asking how fast I'd been in it and even advised the best road to get a good max speed run. It's just a different world here ;-)

Well, them's some pretty good salaries considering they didn't even go to college I suspect. Even without this detail pay, some of them were pushing 6 figures. I expected you'd have to be a chief to get that kind of income in the police force.
hey take it to the chp station in woodland hills, i got the exact same ticket when i had a rice rocket back in the day and the cop signed off my ticket with the exhaust still on the car. They'll usually take care of it there!
