UK TV is advertising the 'wonderful' Goodyear RFT as if it is the latest invention. Has anyone tried them? I'm totally fed up with the Dunlop & Bridgestone versions.

I have them and compared to the Dunlop I had on previous E60 I think are stiffer and you feel much more the road bumps and imperfections.

I had Goodyears on my first E60 and when I changed last year I put on Pirelli non run flats.
Unfortunately I can't give you a direct non run flat comparison but I was getting fed up with the Goodyears towards the end. No compliance in the tyre sidewall and it was unrefined over anything but the smoothest of roads. The non RF's totally transform the ride quality. Why don't u try non run flats ?

I've got four of 'em... in my basement NCT5s... as also seen on pricey motors like, er, the Ford Focus.

Wagon wheels, mate, wagon wheels.... hard ride, they feel skittery, and seriously lack traction, though they do offer good 'turn-in'.... typical run-flats, basically.

Where's this 'new' generation of RFs we were promised, that's my question.

I agree with this. I have them also...although they have very AND i mean VEEERY stiff walls that gives a harsh ride. Other than that they are at normal noise level, nothing to bother. Traction...well i dunno about that since this is the 1st pair of tyres on this car, one thing is for sure with dsc on the light comes on very qicky and with off and very lightest touch on the accelerator especially if the steering wheel ain't perfectly straight aimed i get lots and lots of wheelspin, maybe the tires...maybe the torque...i dunno. Today i spinned the tires for over 50m from 10km/h under full acceleration with the back end nervous stepping out. Conclusion: i need 275 on the back and i will not go back to rf tires.

I really do not thrust the RF's, atleast not yet.

I just read in a local carmagazine that Continental has come out with
a brand new tire: ContiSportContact 3.

They come both as RF's and non RF's.

I will go for the non RF version this spring.

Great. Wonder how it will perform next to PS2s from Michelin. I always was a bit biased on Michelin....

Thumbs down

I've been told that normal tyres will not go on my run-flat rims. Is this true?

I have Goodyear RFT's on mine and hate them. Jittery, poor wet grip and lack of feeling through steering. They are coming off only half worn if I can fit non-RF's.

No!

You can put any tires on your OEM BMW rims as long as the size is correct.

The new RF tyres can also be put on normal rims.
