I am about to purchase 166 rims and really like the look of the Goodyear F1 tires.

Whats the opinion on these versus the Michelin PS2's

The Goodyears don't come in any 285 19 sizes so one downside is that Id have to opt for the 275/30 set up in the rear with these tires.

General consensus on here is PS2's.

However:

Both tires are neck and neck on the Tire Rack survey (with the Goodyear results based on far more reported miles and thus less likely to be skewed). The top tire right now is the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position, which should also be on your list.

The Goodyear came top in Car and Driver's tire test (blind testing of 11 different tires on a 330i Sport), the PS2 came in 4th.

Given how few sets of tires most of actually buy or try very few of us will have actually driven both, so take all opinions with a pinch of salt - both are excellent tires and you likely won't notice the difference.

I've heard the GS-D3s are on back order so that may have an impact too.

I've had both, albeit on different cars. Personally I prefer the PS2's but the F1's are better in the wet... One thing to note is that the PS2's will probably be noticably more expensive than the F1's...

Hey there,

I have style 166 19s with 285/30 Michelins on the rear. They apparently aren't made in large quantities in that size so they are hard to get and thus $$$ (I paid over 500 ea. without mounting and they were shipped in across the U.S.). Don't feel bad about going with the 275s if they are more avail. and cheaper.

As for the Mich. vs. Goodyear, I have never driven on those exact Goodyears, but generally I think Corvette when I hear Goodyear and Porsche/BMW when I hear Michelin. I can't name one car over $100,000.00 that comes OEM with Goodyears, while even the folks at Dodge recognized the proper tire for their Viper was a Michelin Pilot Sport. I'm sure the Goodyear is a great tire all the same. But I will say that I once returned a set of Bridgestone S03s on my last sport pack. BMW because it changed the personality of the car so much (from the OEM Mich. pilot sports).

I have no experience with PS2's, but I do have a set of the F1 D3's on my 540i. Excellent tires. very quiet, wear well, and outstanding in wet conditions. My preference in tires is for wet performaers. Most high performance tires will do well in dry conditions, but wet roadholding and braking performance is more important from a safety perspective.

If you decide on PS2's, check the price on the Costco web site. Keep in mind that what they provide is the full delivered, installed, rebalancing included, road hazard included price. I think they have the lowest price of all dealers and they did a great job installing them for me.

According to EU tests they are the best overall.

I'm talking about the size 245/40 18"

My main interest are in order:
- not tendy to tramline
- no noice
- good on wet roads
