Good deal on 545i?
#1
New member here looking at possibly pulling the trigger on a 545i. My current vehicle is a 2000 740i which has been great but at times a maintenance whore. I don't mind a little diy but just wanted some advice before I check out this vehicle and opinions on owning a car out of warranty. Here is the car I'll be checking out tomorrow. 2005 545i with 44k.

The car looks great, and I love the 545... whats the price? Did I miss it?
And as one member suggested, you should have a VIN# under the rear plate and I dont see it... Carfax it or something like that and see if you can get a BMW dealer to run the service history for you - its all stored on the key.

Thanks for the replies guys. The price is $19986, which for the mileage seems pretty good to me. The carfax shows up as a 1 owner car and is not showing any accidents. I'm going to check it out tomorrow and see if I can run it to a BMW dealer to give me the history and do a ppi.

I know here in NY, the reporting for carfax is backed up almost 2 years with basically makes it useless here. I have a friend who had a jeep that was in a major accident. Traded it in 1.5 years later and the carfax came up clean. You have to look for paint work, feel the edges of the paint find a shop thats got a paint meter and really check the car out.

PPI/Carfax/Autocheck/Bodyshop none of them can verify 100% if the car had an accident or not. The only way you could be absolute sure about the paint work is to take it to a shop that has a paint meter and look at the uniform reading all across the panels. The number should be between 5-6,any thing more and the car has paint work. There is reason why the price is so attrative on this car, don't you think so ?
Hope that whelps.

I'll agree with you to a point, but just because a car has paintwork does not mean it had an accident. Sometimes the dealer even repaints a car before CPO sale. Shit happened to me. I do paintwork and that includes touch-up scratches with an airbrush but have to re-clear the entire panel and I'll bring it out an extra 2mm with clear. So I guess you've been to the auctions and have seen the funny guys running around with their little $300 digi paint gauges? lol... it works in a hurry but not to tell the actual history behind the car. About 90% of cars on the road have filler work and about 95% of the cars on the road have had paintwork.

I have still not gone to look at this car yet but I have run the autocheck and carfax, both of which show a clean 1 owner vehicle with no accident reports. Obviously, that doesn't mean much but I'm still keeping my eyes open for a clean 2005 545 w/sport package. Not seeing too many available in my area
