Each to their own! If you look long and hard at any car you can pick fault and everyone had their own taste. I personally think that Lexus and MB do have more luxurious interiors and the Japanese cars have more gadgets, depends on what you prefer. It is annoying how much aftermarket stuff costs but then I went 10 years only buying tires and wiper blades for my last cars so the modding is by choice...well maybe habit...not sure now what to call it.

I've had the misfortune to own a 745, 650, 530.
THEY ALL SUCKED! They all required frequent visits to the service center. they all smelled like german sweat and i finally gave up when my local dealer ignored ALL my requests for a month.
The list goes on and on -
I picked up a fully loaded 2007 Lexus GS 450h for less than a 2007 530i with no NAVI, which for me means just a single cd player.
The GS has more vehicle performance than a 650, more luxary than a 7 series - i mean there is no comparison - try it for yourself...
really i mean i get performance - but when you have to sacrifice EVERYTHING else - what's the point. just get a motorcycle if you want a thrilling ride.
The gas milage on the bmw's are so bad - its ridiculous.
the technology sucks - who wants to use an idrive? if your a passenger - you won't even know how to use it....
and to make matters worse - getting aftermarket parts / upgrades cost 5 times more than it should cause it's OVER ENGINEERED!
to get my lexus to play dvd video cost me 300! yes not the 1500 every guy told me for my bimmer.
the service sucks too -
ok i am done venting - spent over 100K on bmw's and a total of 10k getting rid of them

Sorry you had such negative experiences. Sometimes you just hit that tipping point. Enjoy your new car. Cheers, Calvin

My BMW is in the shop more, the Lexus never breaks, but the Lexus costs a lot more to maintain while under warranty. The long term Lexus tests in the car magazines have Lexus as one of the highest maintenance costs in the industry. You have to get to Porsche levels before you find a car that costs more to service. And since it?s a Hybrid so no one else will touch it.
Good Luck

The GS450h is a great car. It rides like a Lexus, it doesnt squeek, creek and it has a easy nav system, ipod and bluetooth. Its not a practical sedan not as roomy but it works. Handling is different due to its a AWD car with hybrid mixed in. BMW doesnt really push the technology envelope in the moderate price range.
As far as service ours hasnt been high at all , shit our R32 vw rings up service bills like its going outta style. And actually brake jobs on these Hybrid cars are cheaper

I am sorry that you had suck bad luck with your Bimmers. I have had nothing but good out of the ones that I have had. As for the mpg that is not an equal match. Plus I cant see how your mpgs were so bad in your bimmers. My 750 gets better mpgs than my MDX. I am averaging about 33mpg at 80-85mph.

GS is actually smaller than ES.
Even though Lesus claims that GS is Lexus' Sport Sedan, You can not find any 'sport' character in both its appearance and performance.
I would say ES is better choice than GS but then you see so many ES' s on street (like every block and parking lot along with TL and g35). If reliability and comfort (recliner on wheels) were the factors then I 'd go with Hyundai Genesis.
At least you do not see Gen as much as you would see other japanese cars.
