In the UK it could take 40 miles to the next motorway exit, never mind tyre shop!
I can put my donut spare on in less than 10 mins and drive on it for as long as I want.....................oh yes and I can continue to use the car whilst the flat tyre is being repaired, not be without the car 'cause the tyre shop does not have the right size, or it's a public holiday or a sunday.

I am at the same crossroad here, my rfts on the 550i are shot with 14k on them. I have a spare in the car, and I am going to replace all four of them with the goodyear F1's. Getting out of the car to change a tire is not a big deal to me, and I am looking forward to getting a better ride, with more grip out of the non rfts.

If you don't mind giving up trunk space you could store a conventional wheel/tire for a spare there.

A magazine here tested RTF and they done 600 km or so .
I can only say I had 2 punctures on the Mini and I drove 2-3 days per tyre with them : the only precaution was to lift the car on the jack during night.
Maybe on a 520i/520d I would suggest RTF.

My new e60 will be here in 4 weeks, it comes with the 18 RFT tyres. I am trading in my e46 at the same time. Does the E60 with RFT come without a jack and tools ?, if so proabably best i keep the jack, tools and spare from the E46 ?
