Glove Box Fan Noise?

I have an issue with a whirring noise coming from the vicinity of the glove box (2008 550). It occurs even if the AC/blower is off and seems to start after 30+ minutes of driving & sounds like a fan cooling something (even if air is off).
The noise level seems too high to be considered "normal".
Any ideas?... I will take to the dealer but wanted to be educated in advance so I don't get the usual runaround. thanks

I think you're referring to the fan that cools the "computer" or Idrive. It's located right underneath the glove box. Mine is considerably loud also. When my car is off I can still hear it running for a couple mins. Dealer said it was normal. Curious to see what others are experiencing.....

When the car is off I can only hear it for a few seconds before it stops.
Based on how loud mine is it seems unlikely that it's within spec. I'll report back on what the dealer says. thks

Yeah, it doesn't come on right away when the cars cold. It'll kick in when the car's warm and iDrive is going. It'll also stay on when the engines off, but will shut off a little bith after the car's completely off. It's a bit annoying because it's the only sound in the car when you have the engine off and aux power on. I'd appreciate what they say as I haven't had any luck in having the dealership fix it.

Does your fan noise only start after driving for a while (approx. 30 mins) or does it start immediately?
