give away my 5 for a 750Li

I'll be the opposing opinion on this one. When I was choosing which car to buy, I got my final choice down to two. A 545i and a 745i. On the plus side, the 745i is bigger (but I didn't need the space) and it has more toys (but not ones I care about) and may be considered to be an upgrade from a 5. Personally I didn't see it as an upgrade at all, merely a bigger car. The downside is that it doesn't handle as well as a 5, and isn't as compact as a 5. Not that I want super compact, if I did I'd go for an M3. The 5 is the perfect size for me - it's just right.
I wouldn't take up the offer in terms of what car I want to own and keep. On the other hand, if pops is loaded and wants to transfer a larger residual value to your direction and you're quite happy to take advantage of him in that way, then go for it.

I prefer the 5 over the 7 as well. The 5 is much sportier and drives much better in the twisties. The 7 is comfortable but HUGE. Tough to have "fun" driving in a 7. If you need the space, go for it. If not, stick with the 5.
I think the 5 looks better then the 7 too.. the 7 has too much of a old-person's car feel to it... especially with the column shifter.

Dunno, there's a reason pre-owned 7er cost less than pre-owned 5er here in Germany at least.
Same year, engine, similar config, etc., you can buy the 7er for a bit less, almost always.
So it's considered a downgrade here actually, most of the time.
