http://www.gfchips.com/bmw545i.aspx

I stumbled onto this doing a web search for performance enhancements for my (wife's) Z4 3.0i. I didnt think there was much available at all in the way of chip upgrades for my 545. Has anyone here used these successfully (either in the 545 or the 530)? The horsepower and mileage claims seem pretty loud (ie wouldnt BMW just make it that way if it was that good?) and the price is sorta too good to be true.....
+60 hp in either car for $69 would be kinda ridonculous. My tire replacement bils may go up exponentially...

Send me your $69 and we can pretend we did something to your engine. Either way, it will have the same effect.

Hi Mookish. Sounds like you're in the disbeliever camp, lol. Are there any performance ehancement dru-, er, chips, programmers, otherwise that you do recommend?

Bizarre, their ad is in my post now, have I created a monster?

lol, there isn't much in the way of cheap mods for a NA engine that will net those kinds of gains.

Google IAT resistor. After reading, if you decide you want to check one out, buy one from RadioShack for $1.75. I used on on my Volvo C70 back in the day, and it moved like a bat out of hell for about 15 minutes before the O2 sensors recognized I was running rich and self corrected the ECU. My MPG also decreased with normal driving

Any legit "chip" or ecu tune for a naturally aspirated car will give you 10 hp at its max. Anything more is a farse. Their are tunes out there for the 545/550's gaining around 7 or 8 hp at MOST. Turbo cars are different and commonly can gain 50-100hp by cranking up the boost. NA cars have no options other than fuel and ignition timing. Sometimes a little vanos adjustment but that is it.

I tend to disagree. My Diablo predator tuner produced a 18 HP increase on the Canned CAI tune (Dodge Magnum SRT-8). With a custom tune it produced 26. All dyno runs were performed within 4 hours of each other. Unfortunately, as I can find....there are no REAL tuners for the N62 platform.

And for those who say that if you can better tune the engine, the factory would have done it: The factory looks at a compromise of MPG and Fuel Economy. ALOT of engines out there have way more potential with a proper tune, but you WILL sacrifice MPG's
