Yes. Trust me, if you had the tire roar that we are all complaining about, you would hear it over the radio or over a loud explosion. You can't miss the sound. With my replacement tires (Bridgestones) installed, it's all quiet on the western front again.

The Dunlop R/Fs are a letdown. At about 6,000 miles, they began to roar. My wifey says I am complaining as much about the tires as they are roaring back at me

Local dealer seemed not interested to discuss the issue from ther onset. If only BMW or Dunlop come out to acknowledge that they have a batch problem, then maybe, new set of tires from the dealer?

How many miles did have you put on your Dunlops? And have they determined that they are replacing them because of problems with them?

My Dunlops began to roar like a monster truck at around 7000 miles. I believe the exessive noise was related to cupping on the inside of the front tires. I took the tires off for winter at around 9000 miles. When I initially complained about the noise (do a search here) there weren't enough complaints for BMW to take notice. Now, it seems they've admitted that there is a widespread problem and they are replacing tires on a case-by-case basis. The technicians are instructed to file a PUMA case and they are to report tire serial numbers and tread depth in different areas of the tire (and possibly more information.) Once that's submitted, BMW will decide whether or not there is a claim for a warranty replacement. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting new tires out of this and I'm quite happy that BMW stepped up and acknowledged that this was a problem.

According to my dealer, at this time, BMW isn't asking anything about alignment specs, etc. It seems that the problem is either a bad batch of Dunlops or possibly something with Active Steering. The fact that some people are getting new Dunlops (while others are getting Bridgestones) tells me that it's likely that AS isn't the culprit and it was most likely a bad batch of Dunlops...

Rudy, just curious, who is your dealer in the Pittsburgh area? Mine is Bobby Rahal.

Me too. I figured that's who you used based on your location.

I think they are awesome...

It seems that BMW has acknowledged the problem, at least here in the US. Not sure if anything is different in Singapore but the dealer needs to open a PUMA case with BMW or whatever is the equivalent process over there...

Seem like most tyre changes are being carried out in the US. Anywhere else are tyres being changed by BMW?

When the Dunlopes are making a loud noise how loud is loud? Olivin530i, I guess I should have taken a ride in your car to hear for myself.
I've done nearly 9000 miles and haven't had any issues yet but now that I've said it, well its gonna happen right? Should of kept quiet

I took my car in for service to have them take a look at, among other things, the roaring runflats. With 13,700 miles on the car, BMW came back and said they would cover 50% of the replacement value of the tires. And BMW also stated that they would only pay for Dunlop replacements. In the end, this comes out to a little under a $1,000 that I need to pay out of my own pocket, which is ridiculous to get another set of these tires.

I'm not complaining about the 50% offer -- I've used these tires, so fine. But I am complaining about my lack of choices! Any suggestions on how to go forward?

My dealer offered me the replacement of anything I wanted with paying for the pro-rated value OR (after I futher inquired) that they would replace with Dunlops at N/C. I asked him about replacing (at n/c) with the new tires that BMW is putting on the 545's (Bridgestones). He stated that for n/c they could only do the Dunlops as Dunlop was standing behind and replacing the tires.

I think your dealer is trying to hose you.

You might be right, but so far, they've been tip-top. I'm going to just stick to my guns and demand either a) replacement bridgestones or b) 50% value applied towards tires of my choice.
