Hi all,

Was wondering if you guys could chime in and help me with new brakes. I am planning to get 4 new rotors along with brakepads. Its a 2008 528i LCI close to 90 k miles. I am also planning to replace two front calipers. Just two weeks ago had my car sitting for a week and it rained hard few days. Then when I started driving I had hard vibration in the steering wheel I knew it was the corrosion that build up. After a few miles and few hard slow downs I noticed that the front right rotor still had tons of corrosion on it while the other 3 rotors were clean. I am assuming something is wrong with the front right caliper and its causing a huge vibration when breaking. Now two weeks later the vibration is still there. Maybe this was also the reason my rotors were warping always?bmw replaced them under warranty.

Just looking to see if I can get some advise where I can get the parts for a decent price (don't want to buy directly from dealership)? some websites would be helpful. I may do the job myself. Also I don't care about the brake dust Maybe go for ventilated disks?

caliper may be stuck, got two new calipers from Schmiedmann.com. Hopefully they get here soon and I can replace them.

Also replacing all my rotors / pads. Will bleed brake fluid as well.

 

as long as they are not leaking brake fluid, just lube up the slides and torque back to spec and your good.
im guessing the piston slides are just super dry and the corrosion isn't letting them open and close.
i just went through this. took the slides out to find out they were bone dry. had no problems with the brakes however.
turner motorsport had good prices on some nice new drilled rotors. i like them because they are electrocoted black on all the places the pads done grab the rotor so you no longer see the rust on the rotor through the wheel!
just go to turnermotorsport.com throw on some new stop tech or hawk brake pads and your golden.
300$ for two front drilled rotors and brake pads, and i did the brake job. so that price is parts only.

I have StopTech drilled rotors with black hubs because i hate the rust look with Hawk HPS pads and i love them!

 

Go with OEM. They do have brake dust issues but worth it.

 

You can get rebuilt calipers right here in the USA for about $80/each. What made you go to England for the parts?

 

You can get better than OEM for the price. I HIGHLY recommend the Stoptech rotors and pads, they have lasted a good amount of time on my car and are very popular with many of the guys in our shop.
