My Ride: On order: 07 550i, Jet black, black interior, steptronic, sports package, logic 7 sound minus CD changer, rear door mounted airbags, HUD, navigation and comfort access
I get an email from my dealer saying good news, the car I ordered is already in production and I should get it next month for sure. I'm excited for sure, but then I start to think. Doesn't it take about 8-10 weeks from time of order to the time it gets delivered to your dealer. If that's the case, 07 production starts on March 1st so I shouldn't even get it until May. Could I be getting an 06 model?
The email says status: 150 - production started, Model: 0753 550i, port location: PHMPOA. Maybe my sales rep is misinformed. Maybe he meant the end of next month. The email also says I can track my car through bmwusa website, but I couldn't find any links there to track my vehicle. I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Just tried to register and it said my VIN is not in their database. I just got the email today so I guess I'll try again tomorrow.

My Ride: '07 550i (5.4.06 pickup in Munchen)
'01 740i (on the block)
'03 325i (wife's)
'02 330i (retired and missed)
'93 325is (the one that started it all)
Try using your production number, not the VIN (I'm not sure how you already have one, anyway) on the BMW OC website. That's what I did (07 550i), and it worked fine. Also, my dealer told me the first date the car would be available for Euro Delivery would be April 20, so I would imagine the first date for domestic delivery would be end of April/beginning of May...
Congrats on the new ride!!!!!

Once more: the BMW factory comes out with the BMW genuine '07 models
starting in September this year!
So it is a US '07 - not a factory E60 '07.
But congrats anyway!
PS. What's new in the US '07 model compared to the '06?

Well, they are not genuine '07's.

Jeez - why so argumentative? No one asked about how geniune they might be or what the rest of the world is doing. Thanks for pounding the horse -into- the ground.
I don't quite know what you mean by a "factory" E60. They're all made in the factory. Should we draw the arbitrary line we call the "model year" along with the calendar? If it was built in 07 then it's an 07? That would exclude your precious "geniune" September-to-whenever 07 models that get built late in 06.
I much prefer the US convention of avoiding large changes within the same model year. I can't imagine having 2006 cars with 2 different engines (530i). If that means we get cars a few months early, and then smaller tweaks in the fall when your model year changes, then so be it.
Ultimately, by designating model years we're drawing arbitrary lines along a continuum of constantly changing parts, processes, and now firmwares. Who is to say which arbitrary line is any more meaningful and valid than the other? Tradition? Convention? You?

The actual genuine BMW's are directly shipped to Finland.
